People who’d like a say in the 2,800-acre expansion of Lexington’s urban service boundary are invited to a town hall meeting Monday at Lexington’s Senior Center on Life Lane. The meeting takes place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jim Duncan, the city’s planning director, said the gathering to discuss the first USB expansion since 1996 isn’t for show and public input is important.
“We absolutely believe that we can get good ideas from our citizens, from people who are familiar with the areas, are familiar with the needs, and they can look at a plan. We can talk to them about it, and we’ll absolutely take notes on what they say, and there’ll be an opportunity for that to be incorporated into the final plan.”
Among the topics: where to put quality of life elements like trails, green spaces and parks.
“We will have our consultant team and our staff team available and different stations set up where we are showing depictions of the five areas for expansion and showing what some concepts for future development.”
Duncan said Planning Commission members will formally receive the concepts at their Thursday work session, which begins at 1:30 p.m. in City Hall. The Division of Planning is scheduled to present the final plan for growth in October.
