The Fayette County Public School system is hosting its first FAM U Fest Saturday from 9 to noon in the Andrew Center, behind Consolidated Baptist Church on Russell Cave Road. Thomas Wilson, a member of the district’s Family and Community Engagement team, said there’ll be free food and help getting ready for the school year.
“We’re having registration for all grades. We’re focusing on kindergarten, getting records updated into the system. And we’re going to have translators there from our top five languages here in Fayette County.”
Charliese Lewis, also with the district’s Family and Community Engagement team, said there’ll be help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid program, which has been plagued by delays over the last year.
“The numbers were down across the whole nation for FAFSA. So what we’re trying to do is to get those graduates and any adult learners that want to go to college this month, August, so it’s not too late for people to fill out this FAFSA and get that aid to go.”
Staff from the Fayette County Health Department and Health First Bluegrass will be on hand and the Lexington Lion’s Club will offer free eye exams. Also, there’ll be free food.
