Planning underway to enhance Lexington’s Cold Stream Regional Park

Lexington area residents are being asked to weigh in on potential future amenities at Coldstream Regional Park. The 224-acre city-owned tract of land sits on either side of Citation Boulevard off Newtown Pike.
The process to develop a master plan for Coldstream Regional Park is in full swing. Demetria Kimball Mehlhorn in Lexington Environmental Services said citizens can offer suggestions on what they want to see and maybe what they don’t want to see.
“Do they want to see some more passive recreation like benches, wildlife gardens or do they want to see active things like playgrounds, or disc golf or additional dog parks, things of that nature,” said Kimball Mehlhorn.
The master plan is expected to go before the City Council in November. Kimball Mehlhorn said requested funds for park development could be sought over several years. She said the park property sits within the Cane Run watershed.
“It’s a recharge area for the Royal Springs aquifer, which is the primary drinking source for the City of Georgetown. Environmentally, we want to make sure that we protect our streams and by doing that we’ve actually already done a massive streambank stabilization on part of the Cane Run watershed here in the park,” said Kimball Mehlhorn.
Kimball Mehlhorn said citizens can go to the City’s website to participate in a survey. That opportunity runs through the end of the month. Here’s the way to reach the survey site.
