Lexington working to clear neighborhood roads after winter storm

Lexington’s Division of Streets and Roads are steadily working to clear the roads as the city recovers from this week’s winter storm.
Director Rob Allen says they’re about halfway through their winter weather plan. That means focusing on clearing out neighborhoods and trash collection routes.
Allen says clearing neighborhood streets can be tricky.
“There’s a lot more miles involved in neighborhood treatment. And it’s a little more difficult with parking on the side of narrow roads and some hills and things like that,” Allen said.
He says much of the city’s focus has been removing downed trees.
“We had to kind of hit pause for some of the folks on snow removal and go into tree removal,” Allen said. “And luckily, we had some people volunteer to sub and things like that, but we had to take care of the trees.”
Allen says salting the roads can be less effective with temperatures below 20 degrees. Weather is expected to warm up to the 30s next weekend. In the meantime, he recommends not walking in the street while ice has accumulated.
