Legislation proposed that would lower minimum age for Kentucky driver permits

A bill filed in the state legislature could lower the minimum age future drivers can get their learner’s permits.
House Bill 15 would lower the minimum age from 16 to 15. It would also lower the age Kentuckians can get full licenses from 17 to 16-and-a-half.
Those with permits must be accompanied by a fully-licensed adult aged 21 or older in the passenger seat. They also have to have 60 hours of supervised driving experience, including 10 at night.
The legislation was filed by Republican Representative and Majority Floor Leader Steven Rudy.
Kentucky is one of eight states to have its minimum age for drivers permits at 16. The legislation would bring it in line with surrounding states, as well as the entire southern U.S.
