Mayor Linda Gorton today cut a ribbon to officially open the new Davis Park Workforce Center, located at 501 DeRoode St.

“Workforce training is critical to the success of our economy, as well as our residents,” Gorton said. “The Davis Park Workforce Center will help people get back on their feet, train a workforce our businesses need, and build a stronger economy.”

The Davis Park Workforce Center is slated to provide Lexington-Fayette County residents a multitude of career and employer services that will be at the ready for all residents and businesses of Lexington-Fayette County. The Center will be staffed to assist jobseekers with employability skills, such as resume writing, interview skills, essential employment skills, and job searching assistance. Computers will be available for individuals to search for jobs, hold virtual interviews, work on their resumes, and participate in online training.

Amy Glasscock, the Mayor’s Director of Business Engagement said, “The Davis Park Workforce Center is more than just a building – it represents a promise to the people of Lexington that we are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to employment opportunities, resources, training, and support they need to succeed in today’s rapidly changing job market.”

Councilmember Jennifer Reynolds said, “As a Lexington Community Land Trust board member and a Councilmember, I am hopeful about the future today as we celebrate another wonderful public-private partnership that will serve people in the 11th District and beyond. One cannot live without shelter, and one cannot afford to live without employment. Here, the city is investing in both, those in need of employment by aiding people in their employment journey, and AU and Associates is providing the other piece of the puzzle, essential affordable housing.”

The Center features a community room for businesses and partner agencies to gather for meetings, job fairs, and resource events. The facility also features a training room that will be utilized by youth and adults for employability skills, workshops, employer events, career coaching, trainings, and more.

Johan Graham, President of AU Associates, project developers, said, “It is a wonderful day to celebrate Phase 2 of this project with the Lexington Community Land Trust and the City of Lexington. The creation of affordable housing and a workforce development center in the heart of downtown so near the revitalization efforts of Rupp Arena, the Town Branch Trail and Park, and the Central Bank Center and convention hall is an excellent reminder that having the right partners and visionary City leadership makes affordable housing a reality in our community.”

The center is located on land owned by the Lexington Community Land Trust.

In addition to support from the city, funding for the development was made possible by HOPE of the Midwest, CAHEC, Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust and Kentucky Housing Corporation.
