The City of Lexington is hosting its fourth round of home composting workshops. Lexington residents who attend a workshop will receive a voucher for $50 toward the purchase of their own home composter.

These two-hour workshops will cover how to compost using different types of home composter options. Workshops include a presentation, hands-on demonstrations and time for Q&A. This year, we are happy to offer an increased number of workshops with an increased number of spots at locations throughout Lexington.

Preregistration is required for all workshops. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Several types of composters are available, including stationary composters and tumblers. Anyone may purchase a composter through the online store, but the voucher is only available to Fayette County residents who complete a workshop.

Composters must be ordered and paid for by April 5. Pickup will be offered on Saturdays, May 3 and May 10 only. Additional pickup details will be announced when the online compost store opens in mid-February.

This program is supported by the urban services fee associated with curbside waste collection as well as general funds from the Division of Environmental Services Sustainability section. To ensure proper use of these funds, participants must provide an official ID or a piece of mail confirming their address when they attend the workshop.

Compost education partners for the program include Seedleaf, Fayette County Cooperative Extension and The Arboretum and the State Botanical Garden of Kentucky.
