News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government

Explore Lexington’s history by taking part in History Hop on President’s Day, sponsored by 250Lex.

“All throughout 2025, we are celebrating and paying tribute Lexington’s rich history,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “History Hop is a great opportunity for the whole family to get out and learn something they may not know about our great city.”

250Lex Commission Member Mandy Higgins said, “Lexington is fortunate to have a strong and collaborative group of history organizations. We’re excited to celebrate our city’s 250th anniversary at three sites: Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, the Lexington History Museum, and the Mary Todd Lincoln House … with a free day of activities on Presidents’ Day. We hope that residents and visitors alike will not only enjoy the History Hop this month, but continue to explore the city’s many historic sites throughout the year.”

Dr. Higgins serves as executive director at the Lexington History Museum.

Three of city’s historic treasures join together in a celebration of Presidents’ Day. The Lexington History Museum, Ashland: The Henry Clay Estate, and the Mary Todd Lincoln House will offer FREE admission to all on Presidents’ Day, February 17. Take this opportunity to explore these three special places, and their connections to our past.

Mary Todd Lincoln Exhibit

Coming up in March, the Lexington History Museum presents “Mary Todd’s Lexington” – a new exhibit honoring the life of Mary Todd Lincoln. The exhibit, a recipient of a 250Lex Community Cultural Grant, will illustrate the city life, the economy, schools and church, and arts and leisure during 1818-1839, the years Mary Todd Lincoln lived in Lexington. Mary Todd’s Lexington will be on display beginning Saturday, March 15, through Wednesday, April 30, at The Lexington Public Library. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

During each month of 2025, 250Lex will focus on different aspects of Lexington. Following Black History Month, March events will be focused on education.
