Drivers urged to be cautious as temperatures drop overnight

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government

Though the snow has stopped, temperatures remain frigid. Main roads are clear, but drivers should continue to exercise caution. Even cleared roads may contain slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses. With temperatures dropping this evening, roads may refreeze overnight.

Since 5 a.m. this morning, the Lexington Police Department responded to 37 non-injury collisions, three injury collisions, 10 traffic hazards and 22 calls for motorist assistance. Slow down and leave space to ensure that you and others get where you are headed in a timely and safe manner.

Waste Management trucks are expected to finish all routes by 5 p.m. Today’s collection is a makeup day for Monday’s holiday. If your cart has not been collected by 5 p.m. today, report your missed collection by calling 311 or enter a service request online. Leave missed carts at the curb until they are emptied.

Due to the cold, the Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect through Saturday, February 22. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. Residents who see someone in need of shelter can contact LexCall at 311. After business hours, the Hope Center’s outreach team can be reached at 859-551-8053 or 859-556-1870. In the event of an emergency, please call 911.
