Valley View Ferry reopens

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government

The Valley View Ferry reopened this week after being shut down in late November for required recertification and repairs.

The ferry was removed from the river in order for the United States Coast Guard to complete an inspection. This is required every five years. The Valley View Ferry and the USCG are committed to the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew. While the ferry was not in operation, the captains and crew, with assistance from contractors, performed routine maintenance and needed repairs. Due to severe weather over the winter, repairs took longer than anticipated.

All items noted by USCG inspectors were addressed. The ferry has been issued a new Certificate of Inspection that is good for five years.

Updates on the ferry’s operational status and photos of the ferry undergoing repairs can be seen at www.ValleyViewFerry.org and www.facebook.com/valleyviewferry.
