Council to host community information sessions on Lexington’s Preservation & Growth Management Program

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council will host two public education sessions for community members to learn about Lexington’s Preservation & Growth Management Program (LP&GMP).

LP&GMP will develop a formalized framework to guide future decisions regarding the Urban Service Area (USA). Councilmembers and LFUCG staff will work closely together to build upon foundations laid by previous studies from the Sustainable Growth Task Force and the Goal 4 Work Group. The project will also collect and incorporate robust public input from the community throughout this process.

“Land use has been a very contentious issue in Fayette County and LP&GMP is a transformative opportunity to change the way we preserve and grow our city and county,” stated Vice Mayor Dan Wu, who sponsors the item in Council’s General Government & Planning Committee.

The two public education sessions will be held to share information with the public on the program’s goals, background and timeline.

“This is a great opportunity for us to work with the community to establish this long-discussed and much-needed data-driven process that helps us preserve our rural areas while also meeting Lexington’s growth needs for the future.” Committee Chair, Councilmember Liz Sheehan shared.

Each session will include a brief presentation about the project, time for questions and an opportunity to speak directly with Council Members and LFUCG staff. Both meetings are open to the public and will have an identical structure so participants will learn the same information by attending either meeting.
