Additional speed tables coming to West High Street

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government
One lane of West High Street from Merino Street to Madison Place will be closed from Monday, March 31 to Friday, April 18 to install speed tables. Installation was originally scheduled for late 2024, but was delayed due to weather conditions.
The lane closure will last for 24 hours/day. First, the right lane will be closed for approximately one week. When that lane reopens, the left lane will be closed.
This closure will allow construction of two speed tables on West High Street. One will be installed near Merino Street and the other near Madison Place. Two speed tables have already been installed on West High Street in front of Rupp Arena.
Speed tables are longer and flatter than speed bumps. They can be effective at slowing down drivers that go too fast. Through reduced speeds on this section of West High Street, overall roadway safety is expected to improve.
No changes will be made to the current traffic detours related to the Town Branch Park access project. The Central Bank Center loading dock will continue to be accessed via Manchester Street at West High Street. Manchester Street/Ty Court and the Central Bank Center garage will continue to be accessed via Oliver Lewis Way.
