Art by Nature: Rooted in Time open for submissions

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government
Lexington is seeking submissions for Art by Nature: Rooted in Time, a celebration of trees that have stood the test of time. Artists are asked to submit works inspired by one of the 250+ year old trees that have been chosen for their beauty and resilience. Visual artists of all types – painters, photographers, fiber artists, jewelry makers, sculptors, glass artists and more – are encouraged to participate. The artwork submission form is due by Sunday, Sept. 14.
This year’s theme was chosen to coincide with the 250th anniversary of our City. Lexington was founded in 1775, one year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, by William McConnell and frontier explorers who set up camp near what is now known as McConnell Springs. Artists and others are encouraged to find Lexington’s inspiration trees on Art by Nature location map.
This program is in its eighth year. Both new and returning artists are encouraged to submit works. Artists should follow the display and sizing guidelines for submission.
The 2025 exhibit will be held from Oct. 17 – Dec. 13 at the Living Arts and Science Center, 362 North Martin Luther King Blvd. The program is not juried; artists of all levels are welcome to participate. Works are for sale with proceeds going to the artist, or the artist may keep their piece.
The City is planning a series of art and nature events in conjunction with the exhibit. Details on those events will be announced closer to the gallery opening in October.
If you are interested in planting trees at home, you can find guidance for the right tree for your yard.
