Are you our next Bike Month event host?

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government
Lexington will celebrate its fourth annual Bike Month in May, and we need your help to make it a success. Businesses, nonprofits, neighborhood associations, teachers and anyone with an interest in bike riding is invited to host events that celebrate and encourage biking.
The month-long celebration will include events hosted by the City of Lexington and community partners. Hosts are encouraged consider both new riders and seasoned cyclists for their events while reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention and share the road. Past events have included guided trail rides, workshops about bike safety and maintenance and cycling-focused meetups.
Lexington is participating again in Love to Ride, an online cycling encouragement platform all about helping more people ride bikes. Log rides, set goals, earn badges, connect with other riders and more. During Bike Month, Love to Ride will have challenges for Lexington participants and workplaces. Sign up for Love to Ride.
The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will also host the fourth annual StreetFest as part of Bike Month on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at a new location this year, Shropshire Avenue and 540 East Street. Shropshire Avenue will be closed to allow people to bike, scoot, skate, jog or walk along the closed street. Community organizations are invited to set up a table and host performances, classes or demonstrations related to the event’s mission.
Bike Month event submissions are due by Monday, April 21. Events should keep cyclist, pedestrian and driver safety in mind. Free events are preferred, although a minimal fee to cover costs is allowed.
