See City trucks up close at Truck-a-Palooza on June 7

News release provided by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government

Truck-a-Palooza, the city’s annual touch-a-truck event, is back this Saturday! Visit over two dozen trucks from the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works, along with trucks from the Fire and Police Departments. Join us at Frederick Douglass High School, 2000 Winchester Road, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Children and adults alike will have the opportunity to see, touch and even climb inside trucks. Check out the view from the driver’s seat of a Waste Management truck, see how Urban Forestry uses a knuckleboom, learn about Traffic Engineering’s bucket truck and more! Meet the drivers who clean your streets, pick up your trash and keep our city running.

The first half of Truck-a-Palooza, from 9 – 11 a.m., will be sensory-friendly. Trucks will not use their horns during these sensory hours. This is a great option for anyone who is sensitive to loud noises. For those attending from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., ear protection is recommended. Bring your own (especially for smaller ears) or use city-provided ear plugs.

Toy trucks, chalk, coloring books and other giveaways will thrill the littlest visitors. Food and drink will be available for purchase from several food trucks.

This family-friendly event is free, including parking. Please enter Frederick Douglass High School from Winchester Road and follow staff instructions for parking. The site is wheelchair accessible. Lextran Route 10 serves this area.
