Lexington’s Public Art Commission is once again inviting local artists to submit original designs to be featured on utility boxes throughout Lexington-Fayette County.
“Public art is a very important part of our community,” Mayor Linda Gorton said today. “This project expands our public art footprint, and allows us to share something meaningful and creative with our neighbors.”
Lexington has approximately 400 utility boxes, most of which are nondescript, gray metal boxes. The city is partnering with Image360 to produce vinyl art wraps for selected sites, with priority given to utility boxes in areas with little to no public art.
In the summers of 2024 and 2025, the city completed two rounds of new art wraps, continuing a program that first began in 2019.
