Pickleball meets Picadome – City opens four new courts

Mayor Linda Gorton, councilmembers, Parks & Recreation staff, and pickleball players cut a ribbon today to officially open four new courts at Picadome.

“We’re excited to be here at Picadome for this fun new addition – four beautiful new pickleball courts,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “Many people know this location for the wonderful Gay Brewer, Jr. Course at Picadome, one of our five city golf courses. Adding other recreational attractions to this location expands ways for people to enjoy this greenspace managed by our Parks & Recreation staff. So pick a teammate, and come enjoy some pickleball at Picadome!”

The new courts, paid for by federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, include four new pickleball courts. The city has allocated ARPA funds, local tax dollars, and district reallocation funds to support the rapid growth of pickleball, a nationwide trend, while also supporting other sports courts and facilities throughout Lexington.

“Since the pool closed in this location, and because pickleball attracts a very wide variety of people from young to old, experienced to inexperienced, from all different socioeconomic levels, it seemed to be an ideal activity to be located at Picadome. Now, in a place that serves the surrounding 11th District neighborhoods, the Central and South-West sectors of the city, and beyond, we have space for an activity loved by so many Lexingtonians,” said 11th District Councilmember Jennifer Reynolds, whose district includes Picadome.
