The Lexington Fire Department is proud to announce the placement of Emergency Care 13 (EC13) into service. A dedication ceremony was held Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at Fire Station 16, 3700 Man O’ War Boulevard. Emergency Care 13 will be housed at Station 16, also known as “the Cave.” This milestone marks the first addition of an ambulance to the LFD fleet since 2018, and the first overall apparatus addition since 2019, when Engine 24 and Tanker 1 were placed into service at Station 24.

“The expansion of our emergency services with the addition of Lexington Fire Department’s Emergency Care 13 vehicle is important for our city,” said Mayor Linda Gorton. “Our paramedics and firefighters do amazing work protecting our residents and providing life-saving services. It’s critical we provide the tools and resources they need. Providing this new vehicle gives our fire first responders the ability to serve more people, more quickly.”

The addition of EC13 strengthens the Lexington Fire Department’s ability to deliver emergency medical services to the growing Lexington community and represents the continued investment in public safety resources.

“Today is a historic day for the Lexington Fire Department and for Lexington as we place Emergency Care 13 into service, the first addition of its kind to our fleet since 2018. This milestone represents far more than just a new vehicle; it is the culmination of months of planning, coordination, and problem-solving by our dedicated team,” said Fire Chief Jason Wells. “It also reflects the steadfast commitment of Mayor Gorton, Commissioner Ken Armstrong, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council, and so many others within LFUCG leadership whose support made this possible. Together, we’ve taken a significant step in ensuring that our firefighters and paramedics have the tools they need to respond quickly, provide the highest level of care, and keep our community safe for years to come.”
