LEXINGTON, Ky. — A federal grand jury has indicted six men in the 2023 shooting death of Kristopher “Kris” Lewis, alleging they carried out a murder-for-hire scheme to stop him from testifying in a pending federal case, according to court records unsealed last week.
The indictment, returned Oct. 2 and unsealed Oct. 8 in the Eastern District of Kentucky, names William Quejohn “Money/Que” Dixon; Rollie Deshawn “Ral/Ral-O” Lamar; Daquis Damarr “Tona/Quis/Killer Quis/KQ” Sharp; Desmond Elijah “Bibby” Bellomy; Jatiece Alvin “Baba/JT/HBBABA” Parks; and Deangelo Montavius “Doja” Boone. Prosecutors say the group used cellphones and interstate travel and offered cash and other valuables as payment to kill Lewis on Sept. 29, 2023, in Fayette County.
The centerpiece allegation is stark: Dixon, Lamar, Sharp, Bellomy and Parks “killed Kristopher Lewis by shooting him with one or more firearms” to prevent his attendance and testimony in federal criminal proceedings involving Lamar and “offenses relating to narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and firearms,” the indictment states. Boone is charged in the murder-for-hire counts tied to alleged use of interstate facilities and conspiracy.
All six face charges that include witness tampering through killing, conspiracy, use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to use a firearm during a crime of violence. The government also gave notice of special findings that could make four of the counts death-eligible, citing factors such as intent to kill, payment for the killing, and substantial planning. Prosecutors are also seeking forfeiture of any proceeds and firearms tied to the crimes.
One defendant, Lamar, faces an additional enhancement because prosecutors say he committed the offenses while on federal pretrial release in another case.
Boone, who was arrested Oct. 8, made his initial appearance that day and pleaded not guilty. His detention hearing is set for Oct. 20 in Lexington. Judges have scheduled November arraignments for several co-defendants: Dixon (Nov. 12), Bellomy (Nov. 12), and Lamar (Nov. 14). A jury trial is currently set for Dec. 2 in Frankfort, though such dates in complex cases often move.
The case was initially sealed on Oct. 2 at the government’s request and designated as complex. It was unsealed following Boone’s first appearance. Defense attorneys appointed or admitted to the case include Jeffrey C. Rager and Patrick F. Nash for Dixon; Adele Burt Brown and Diane M. Menashe for Lamar; Karloff Commissiong and Noah R. Friend for Sharp; Edward J. Rymsza and Rachel Diane Yavelak for Bellomy; Donald J. Malarcik for Parks; and Thomas C. Lyons and James A. Swetz for Boone. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mary Lauren Melton and G. Todd Bradbury are prosecuting.
If convicted of the lead counts, several defendants could face life in prison or the death penalty. The murder-for-hire counts also carry up to life if a machine gun or certain other weapons were used, and the firearms-conspiracy charge is tied to the underlying violent offenses. The indictment lists mandatory $100 special assessments, possible fines, restitution, and forfeiture.
An indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
