Mayor Linda Gorton today outlined the city’s preparations for a winter storm forecasters say will pile up snow in Lexington this weekend, while also encouraging residents to help the city by planning ahead.

“If the forecast is accurate, this is a significant weather event, and we will need the assistance of every resident,” Gorton said. “Before the flakes start flying, get your groceries; run any important errands; fill up the gas tank; check prescriptions; anticipate closures and cancelations; and check on your neighbors to make sure they have what they need – especially those who are elderly.”

The City’s Division of Emergency Management encourages residents to have enough household essentials and medications to meet their needs for at least 96-hours.

“This storm will likely disrupt our normal activities, including events, municipal services, education, transportation, business, and commerce,” said Rob Larkin, Director of Emergency Management. “I bring this up not to scare our residents, but to prepare our residents, and emphasize that preparation time is now.”
