The focus of February’s “Our Healthy Kentucky  Home” initiative is maternal, infant and toddler health.

The key goals of the state’s campaign, which is in its second year, are for Kentuckians to eat two servings of fruits and vegetables daily, to exercise at least 30 minutes three times per week, and to engage with others and stay connected.

“For our youngest Kentuckians, these health goals establish a strong foundation for a long, healthy, productive life,” Dr. Steven Stack, secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, said at a Feb. 5 news conference. “Every spoonful of nutritious foods supports growing bodies and curious minds. Every stretch, crawl and playful step builds strength and confidence. Every smile, story and shared moment of connection helps children feel safe, seen and loved.”

Stack added that families don’t have to do this alone.

“Across Kentucky, there are supportive programs that engage parents and caregivers, offering guidance, encouragement and resources during these crucial early years,” he said.

Stack highlighted three resources for new moms and babies:

“Together HANDS, KEIS and WIC support the Our Healthy Kentucky Home. They support families in the everyday work of helping children eat well, move often and stay connected,” Stack said. “And through these small, powerful moments, shared meals, playful moments and loving interactions, we help Kentucky’s youngest children grow stronger today and thrive for a lifetime.”
