On Tuesday, Mayor Linda Gorton will ask the Urban County Council to grant initial approval to agreements with eight contractors who can help the city scale up heavy equipment and experienced personnel to manage winter ice and snow, and other kinds of disasters.
The contracts are a first step in ongoing work to improve the city’s winter weather response.
“While winter’s s ice has melted, unfortunately, the problems with our winter weather response did not disappear with it,” Gorton said. “That will take work. Today we’re taking the first of many steps before winter returns.”
In addition to hiring contractors, the city’s overall goals are to rewrite the current snow plan to develop an ice and snow plan, and to revamp the management structure, ensuring more oversight and coordination.
