It’s time for the City of Lexington’s annual volunteer tree planting, Reforest the Bluegrass! This year, Reforest is returning to Coldstream Park, where we planted in 1999 and 2024. The Legacy Trail and a dog park have made Coldstream a popular destination since the first Reforest. Volunteers can see past Reforest planting sites and how the trees planted over the years have grown into a streamside forest.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome to plant trees at Reforest the Bluegrass on Saturday, April 18 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Coldstream Park, 1850 Pisacano Drive. No previous tree planting experience is required. In addition to planting trees, volunteers may visit the exhibitor tent with fun activities that focus on protecting our planet and waterways. Free lunch and a t-shirt are provided. Preregistration is not required, but volunteers must sign a waiver onsite before planting.

The following weekend, Reforest at Home will continue for its seventh year. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 25, Fayette County residents can pick up free trees at one of three locations: Jacobson Park (Shelter #6) at 4001 Athens Boonesboro Road; Coolavin Park at 550 West Sixth Street; and Shilito Park (Shelter #1) at 3745 Shillito Park Road.

Large shade and small flowering tree seedlings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of two small trees and five trees total per household. Please do not arrive before 10 a.m.; we will not be able to give trees away early.
