Lexington Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking and Firearm Possession
LEXINGTON, KY — A Lexington man, Demetrius Ramon Gill, also known as Demetrius Ramon Jones, pleaded guilty on Thursday to drug trafficking and firearm possession charges. The plea agreement was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
Gill was charged with “Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine” and “Felon in Possession of a Firearm.” According to the plea agreement, Gill will enter a guilty plea to both counts. He was indicted on the federal charges in March 2023.
The Bust and Items Seized
According to the plea agreement, the Lexington Police Department executed two search warrants at Gill’s residences on East Loudon Avenue and Chestnut Street on October 6, 2022. The search yielded approximately $40,923, suspected to be proceeds from drug distribution. Law enforcement also found smaller quantities of suspected crack cocaine, digital scales, and items indicative of crack cocaine processing.
A Taurus Judge .45-410 caliber pistol was found under the bathroom sink in an upstairs bathroom. Gill had previously been convicted of felony controlled substance and firearm offenses in 2004.
Sentencing Guidelines
The statutory punishment for the drug trafficking count is imprisonment for not more than 20 years, a fine of not more than $1,000,000, and a term of supervised release of at least three years. For the firearm possession count, the punishment is imprisonment for not more than 15 years and a fine of not more than $250,000.
The case is assigned to Judge Karen K. Caldwell and referred to Magistrate Judge Matthew A. Stinnett. Gill is represented by Daniel E. Whitley, Sr., of Whitley Law Office, PLLC. The case is set for sentencing on December 18, 2023.
