Lexington’s Division of Water Quality invites businesses, nonprofits, schools and other organizations in Fayette County to apply for Stormwater Quality Incentive Grants. This program funds projects that improve water quality, reduce stormwater runoff and educate the community about protecting local waterways.
Currently, applications are open for all grants, from education and neighborhood projects to large-scale infrastructure improvements. This year, applications are online; no printing and mailing needed! First-time applicants are always welcome and strongly encouraged to apply.
Neighborhood Grants are available for neighborhood, community and homeowner associations that represent single-family homeowners or farms. Neighborhood grants can be used to fund rain gardens, rain barrels, stream bank restoration, neighborhood workshops and other projects that help improve water quality through education or physical improvements.
Education Grants are open to schools, churches, nonprofits and others that do not fall under the neighborhood grant program. In the past, education grants have been used to fund stormwater-related curriculum for schools, publicity campaigns about water quality, workshops for the public, rain gardens and research projects that evaluate the effectiveness of different stormwater management practices.
