The City of Lexington has appointed Dr. Basel Touchan as Executive Director of the Global Engagement Center, known as Global Lex, the city’s international center and hub dedicated to strengthening connections between Lexington’s international communities, local government, and community partners.

Dr. Touchan brings more than a decade of experience in community engagement and organizational leadership focused on improving access to services and opportunities for multilingual, immigrant, and refugee communities.

As Executive Director, Dr. Touchan will lead Global Lex’s efforts to strengthen community partnerships, expand educational and cultural programs, and support citywide initiatives that help ensure all residents can fully participate in the civic life of Lexington and shape its thriving future.

Originally trained as a physician, Dr. Touchan moved to the United States during the Syrian civil war. His personal journey as an immigrant and his early experiences supporting refugee families in Lexington helped shape his decision to transition from medicine into a career focused on public service.
