Expect delays around Leestown Road; detour via Opportunity Way
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 24, 2025) – Construction for the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project in Lexington will require a temporary road closure of Leestown Center Way going eastbound from the Driver Licensing Regional Office towards Leestown. The closures will allow drainage work to be completed.
Beginning Thursday, July 24, contractors will close Leestown Center Way at Leestown Road. Once the work on Leestown Center Way is completed, it will reopen. The lane going westbound from Leestown to the driver’s license office will remain open. Vehicles can use Opportunity Way to connect back to Leestown.
Thursday, July 24, until work is complete, weather permitting:
- Leestown Center Way will be closed going eastbound from the Driver Licensing Regional Office towards Leestown. No additional lanes will be closed at Leestown.
- While Leestown Center Way is closed, drivers can use the lane going westbound from Leestown to the Driver Licensing Regional Office.
- Vehicles can use Opportunity Way to connect back to Leestown.
- Once the work on Leestown Center Way is completed, it will reopen.
- Delays are possible; please plan accordingly.
The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange, improving safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
