Fayette County proposes school lunch price hike
Lexington, Ky — The Fayette County School Board heard a proposal from Michelle Coker, the Director of the Child Nutrition Department for Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) this week to increase school lunch prices, according to a Spectrum News 1 report.
Coker said FCPS typically raises prices every three to four years, but that school breakfast had not increased in price since 2011.
The proposed hike would raise all breakfast to $2.00 and lunch to $2.75 and $3.00 for younger and high school students, respectively. She said that teachers and other adults would not see increased prices, however, due to another recent price increase for adults, “those would remain the same.”
Not all students will be effected by the increase. 49 Fayette County schools are part of the Community Eligibility Provision program. The program is for schools that have a certain percentage of families who qualify for federal assistance, and all students at those schools will continue to receive free lunch.
