Original Story By Hannah Sloan
An arrest has been made in connection with a homicide that occurred overnight on Augusta Drive.
Sean Smith, 53, has been charged with Murder and 1st degree Wanton Endangerment. Smith is currently detained at the Fayette County Detention Center.
The Lexington Police Department was investigating a homicide that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning on Augusta Drive.
At 1:53 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2022, officers responded to the 1800 block of Augusta Drive for a report of a down subject. When officers arrived, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lexington Fire Department.
The victim’s name will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
Our Take
Mr. Smith does not appear to have a violent criminal record, according to a search of publicly available information. He’s been picked up several times over the years, but for minor offenses like drunk in public and failure to appear in court.
Mr. Smith’s arrest location is near the site that LPD lists as the crime scene, down to a specific apartment number.
Based on the Wanton Endangerment charge the detectives tacked on, it would appear Mr. Smith is alleged to have been firing indiscriminately in the residential area when his gunfire struck and killed a person. More investigative details are sure to be released soon.
