Another violent weekend in Lexington
Lexington’s surge in violent crime continued this weekend. On Friday around 2:30pm, there was a shootout in downtown that led to a car chase where, according to multiple social media reports, a driver was firing a weapon at cops from his vehicle. Children at a school in the area of Menifee Ave & Henry Clay Blvd were placed on lockdown, according to these posts.
The suspect eventually crashed near Gatehouse Place, but that wasn’t the only recorded instance of violent crime in the city this weekend. On Saturday, there were two shootings, one of them fatal.
The fatal shooting took place in the 1300 block of Centre Parkway. The non-fatal shooting took place in the 400 block of Scottsdale Cir.
Our Take
It isn’t our place to weigh in on this right now, but violent crime is on the minds of many in Lexington. We’ve decided to schedule a sit down with the mayor for noon tomorrow to hear more about what she thinks is going on. If all goes well the interview should be posted before the 2pm hour.
