“We are Survivors” held the annual “Walk a Mile in our Shoes” event remembering victims of homicide on today at the Historic Fayette Circuit Courthouse on W Main Street.

On, September 30th, the group will host a block party to help strengthen the relationship between local law enforcement and the community.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office supports the annual event, which was started by Anita Franklin, who lost her son to a stray bullet in Duncan Park several years ago. Franklin recently passed away, but her son Ricardo Franklin carries on her legacy today. The event featured displays in honor of victims that were put up by surviving family members and friends.

Also sprinkled throughout the crowd were community members from Moms Demand Action and Everytown, groups who advocate for common sense gun laws. One law those groups are currently pushing for is 22RS SB 278, a bill relating to crisis aversion and rights retention orders.
