Confirmed: New 47,000 sq. ft. Publix coming to Georgetown St. & Citation Blvd.

Update: The Herald-Leader is reporting that Publix just confirmed what Times readers have known for months: The new store will indeed be a Publix!

Lexington, Ky.–The Urban County Planning Commission approved a new 47,000 square foot grocery store and an additional 22,750 square feet of office space and retail shops for the corner of Georgetown Street and Citation Boulevard at their Thursday meeting.

Fuqua Development out of Atlanta is developing the store, which has led to speculation (by some) that it may be a Publix. (Fuqua has developed several Publix stores in the past.)

There will also be a new shopping center across the street that has been dubbed Citation Centre by its developers, the Webb and Greer companies.

According to a Herald Leader report, the grocery store site was previously owned by Meijer, but the name of the incoming store has not been announced yet, except to say that it will not be a Meijer.

Correction: The original version of this story misstated the developer of the grocery store – it’s Fuqua Development. It is not the Webb and Greer companies.
