Vice Mayor Dan Wu appoints ‘anti-woke’ Kelly Craft donor to municipal committee

Lexington, Ky.–Dan Wu, Vice Mayor of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, recently appointed a high-dollar Kelly Craft donor to a municipal comittee. Craft, who is running for Kentucky’s GOP gubernatorial nomination, has been the source of several controversies of late. Most recently, Craft’s running mate, Max Wise, introduced “anti-woke” legislation that opponents say would be harmful to LGBTQ youth in the state.

Wu appointed Phil Holoubek to the Infill & Redevelopment Steering Committee (IRSC) at the Council’s 1/31 Work Session. In September, Holoubek donated $500.00 to Craft’s campaign for governor.

Wu’s appointment of Holoubek raised questions among observers, as Wu campaigned as an ally of the LGBTQ community and frequently shares content on social media that portrays himself as such.

Wu’s position as Vice Mayor gives him the power to chair and appoint members to various standing committees, including the IRSC. His office has not issued a public statement on Holoubek’s appointment.
