Exclusive: UKPD operates 12 automatic license plate readers on campus, bringing total in city to 112
Lexington, Ky.–University of Kentucky spokesman Jay Blanton confirmed exclusively to the Lexington Times Monday that UK Police currently operate 12 Flock automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) on campus. This is the first time UK officials have publicly acknowledged the existence of the controversial cameras on campus, with city officials previously stating there were only 100 planned ALPR placements within the city.
Last week, LFUCG released a map of the locations of the 100 ALPRs they operate. UK has not released a map, but a UK student reported seeing two on Sports Center Drive and at least one on University Blvd.
