Construction’s underway on what’s being touted as a major mixed-use development at the intersection of I-75 and I-64 at Winchester Road in Lexington. Joe Brumley is the vice president of acquisitions for Cowgill, Inc. He said infrastructure work is underway on a 44-acre tract they’re calling Hamburg East.
“We’ll be building roads and electric systems, sanitary sewer systems, water lines, everything that’s needed to help a large-scale medical facility function will be built during the next year.
Brumley said Cowgill purchased 85 acres of land near the Winchester Road/I-64 and I-75 area in 1999, and last September, sold about half of it to UK Healthcare. According to a Cowgill news release, Hamburg East will include restaurants, hotels, retail businesses, green spaces – and an undetermined number of new homes.
“We are going to be working with the city on the multifamily piece of this and the residential part of it. Today we don’t know. But we do anticipate having a wide range of options for our style and price points.”
Brumley said Cowgill has been working with the state regarding the development’s effect on U.S. 60 – aka Winchester Road – and the city on improvements to Polo Boulevard.
