Feb. 26: Flu & COVID-19 case update

UPDATED FEB. 26, 2024: Flu season remains in full swing in Fayette County

Lexington reported 247 new lab-confirmed flu cases, bringing the total for the season up to 2,768. There have been eight flu-related deaths this season (October 2023 to date).

The city also saw 94 new COVID-19 cases last week, which does not include home-test kits.

You can protect your family, your friends and yourself by getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu. Anyone without insurance or kids with Medicaid can get free flu and COVID-19 shots in our Public Health Clinic Monday-Thursday with a same-day appointment by calling 859-288-2483.

We encourage others with insurance to get the COVID-19 shot at area pharmacies or medical providers. Visit www.vaccines.gov to see more options.

You can also help slow the spread of COVID-19 by:

  • Wearing a well-fitted mask in public areas. Learn more about masks at ww.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html;
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick;
  • Staying home when sick;
  • Covering coughs and sneezes;
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
