Kentucky League of Cities legal staff to represent former Prestonsburg mayor facing sexual abuse charges

Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton’s resignation message was read by a city councilmember at a specially-called meeting Tuesday. He said he was shocked at the allegations made by a former city employee and was stepping down due to injuries from a fall off his roof the week before. Because Stapleton was still in office when the suit was filed, the Kentucky League of Cities’ legal team will represent him and the city, which is a co-defendant. Stapleton and the plaintiff’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
