The annual Kentucky Science and Engineering Fair will host around 300 students from across the Commonwealth next weekend.

It’s hosted at Eastern Kentucky University’s Student Recreation Center March 23. The fair will be a showcase for Kentucky’s top middle school and high school projects.

Director Jason Marion says those projects on display are a lot different from a normal school fair.

“We have some pretty exceptional young folks that come from across the Commonwealth, solving environmental problems to human health problems and even mathematical equations that some people don’t know how to figure out,” Marion said.

He says the fair is a means to help Kentucky’s best and brightest develop.

“I routinely learn stories about folks – even some folks that I went to school with – from some of our rural low income counties of the Commonwealth that ended up going on to become world renowned medical doctors and pharmacists and engineers,” Marion said.

The fair’s top winners will go on to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles and compete with students around the world.

Those interested can view the projects between 7:30 and 9:15 a.m. March 23 at Eastern Kentucky University’s Student Recreation Center. Judging will begin after and will be closed to the public.
