Council Continues Work on City Budget

Last week, three of the Budget Links held meetings to discuss the Mayor’s Proposed Budget:

  • the Environmental Quality & Public Works Link,

  • the General Government & Social Services Link,

  • and the Finance, Economic Development, & Planning Link.

During the Links, Councilmembers talked to divisions within LFUCG about their respective allocations in the Proposed Budget, specifically focusing on requests that their staff made that were not funded. The majority of these unfunded requests across City divisions were new staff positions, operating software, or capital purchases like trucks or cars.

None of the Links last week settled on their recommendations for revisions to the budget. Councilmembers will reconvene privately to determine final recommendations for Budget revisions to bring to the whole Council.

The Public Safety and Social Services Link will begin meeting this week, while the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Housing Advocacy & Community Development Link will meet next Monday. Here are their meeting schedules:

  • Public Safety and Social Services Link – Tuesday, April 30th at 9am, Government Center Council Caucus Room

  • Public Safety and Social Services Link – Wednesday, May 1st at 9am, Government Center Council Caucus Room

  • CAO, Housing Advocacy & Community Development Link – Monday, May 6th at 1pm, Government Center Council Caucus Room

Link meetings are open to the public, but do not take public comment. They also will not be streamed on LexTV.

Links must submit their recommendations by May 15th. These recommendations will be discussed and most likely voted on during the Budget Committee of the Whole Meeting on May 28th at 1pm.
