National Weather Service Louisville office says two tornados confirmed, survey teams looking for others

The National Weather Service in Louisville has confirmed at least two tornados touched down in Kentucky late Sunday night – and investigators are checking out other possible twisters. Samantha Michlowitz, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Louisville office, said one survey team was in Warren and Butler counties on Memorial Day.
“They found an EF-1 tornado with 110 mile per hour winds. That survey still ongoing. We will have more updated information as things come out. But right now, we do know it’s a track of about 20 miles, and it will likely connect through into Muhlenberg County.”
Michlowitz said another EF-1 tornado was in Meade County, with 90 mile per-hour winds and a mile-and-a-half path. She said one of the most dramatic stories happened in northern Warren County, where several homes were badly damaged.
“One was a two-story home, which the entire second story was taken off. And we did hear from the residents who live there and the father went upstairs and grabbed his son just before the tornado came in. And so they are all safe. No injuries.”
Michlowitz said survey teams are out in nearly a dozen other counties, including Mercer, where a woman was killed when a tree fell on the home she was in.
