Construction begins on $2.4 million neighborhood center project on Lexington’s west side

Lexington city officials gathered on the west side Wednesday to announce the start of renovations and additions to the Valley Park neighborhood center. Mayor Linda Gorton said the building is a very popular place for community meetings, rentals, youth activities and other events in the Cardinal Hill area.
“It’s clear that we need more space. So the project includes a full renovation of the existing building, including creation of additional multipurpose space that can be subdivided into two separate rooms.”
Gorton said the addition will include two new restrooms and changing rooms with lockers. The center is in City Councilmember Jennifer Reynolds’ district, and she said she’s a frequent visitor.
“I truly hope that this new and renovated space will serve as a community gathering space for all our Cardinal Valley residents, and that community partners will be able to utilize it to provide helpful programming for our families and their children.”
The $2.4 million project will also expand the outdoor canopy by 900 square feet for larger outdoor activities. Construction is projected to be complete in the summer of ’25.
