City, County, and State officials gathered to ceremoniously break ground on a retail development site known as The Paddocks of Frankfort.

The site is a new $150 million mixed-use development off Interstate 64 in West Frankfort. Rain moved the ground-breaking inside to the Capitol Rotunda.

Franklin County Judge Executive Michael Mueller said his county is on the brink of booming.

“We are seeing more investments, more community, more jobs. We have so many things on the horizon we’re about to announce it is unbelievable. It is exciting for someone in my position, along with the fiscal court, along with the mayor, along with the governor, things are finally happening in Franklin County.”

Governor Beshear said the development is expected to bring over 17-hundred construction jobs. Once completed, the governor said the impact of this center is expected to support over a thousand jobs, and 28 million dollars in yearly wages.

The anchor of the site, known as the Paddocks of Frankfort will be a new Target store.

One of the speakers was developer Pat Madden who took over the project. He also developed Hamburg Place in Lexington. He said there will be much more than just Target at this site.

“You’ll come to this spot, you wont leave. You’ll eat, you’ll fill your car up, you’ll get your car fixed, you’ll shop, your wife will go one direction to shop for clothes or groceries, the husband will go somewhere else, this will have everything in it eventually.”

Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson said this development was a testament to the collaboration local governments can have with their state counterparts.

The regional center is being built at Interstate Highway 64 and U.S. Highway 127 off exit 53 in Frankfort.
