City of Lexington accepting free storm debris drop-offs

The City of Lexington is accepting free drop-offs of storm debris at the Haley Pike Waste Management Facility through October 13th. Halsten Higgins is a public information officer with the city’s Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works. She said the landfill has expanded hours – from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – and will also be open on Wednesdays through the 13th.
“People must be in line by five for guaranteed service. They should make sure to bring a driver’s license or proof of residency with them and they can bring, for free, no charge, all their storm debris there.
Some residents will choose the curbside option.
“Folks can, of course, use their gray yard waste bins for storm debris, and those will get collected regularly. They can also use paper yard waste bags for extra debris and set them out along their yard waste cart.”
Higgins said large branches should be cut down to four feet long and be bundled, if possible. The end result will be mulch available, down the road, for free. Lexington Environmental Quality and Public Works is a supporter of WEKU.
