Urban Growth Master Plan presentation and public hearing
In Tuesday’s General Government and Planning (GGP) Committee meeting, Long Range Planning Manager Chris Taylor will present an update on the Urban Growth Master Plan (UGMP), which sets a vision for how the expansion areas of the Urban Service Boundary (USB) should be developed.
The Division of Planning published the first draft of the UGMP a few weeks ago. You can read the plan and leave digital comments on it here. The UGMP focuses on building denser neighborhoods with a variety of housing types in the expansion areas and is attempting to reserve space for community infrastructure such as libraries, parks, and schools.
In 2023, the Council voted to expand the Urban Service Boundary explicitly to address Lexington’s housing shortage. A total of 17,607 to 26,677 housing units are recommended across all expansion areas.
You can review the full presentation slides starting on page five of this packet.
This Thursday, the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the UGMP. If you want to give public comment and share you thoughts on the plan, you can do so at 1:30pm in Council Chambers on Thursday, October 17th!
The General Government and Planning Committee will meet on Tuesday, October 15th at 1pm in Council Chambers. You can attend in-person or watch live on LexTV.
