Republican Senator Rand Paul hosted a veteran constituent services fair in Winchester Friday as part of a tour through towns in eastern Kentucky.

The fair was organized to connect local veterans with healthcare needs like disability benefits, compensation claims and tax refunds.

It was hosted at Lady Veterans Connect, a transitional home for women vets outside Winchester. Both Paul and staffers from his office answered questions from veterans in attendance.

“There’s times when people are trying to get care and it doesn’t work, that my staff is available and can hopefully cut through the red tape,” Paul said. “That’s a little bit of what today is, to let you know that we are available.”

Paul also advocated for more funding to VAs and medical services for veterans during the event, as opposed to conflicts abroad.

“I tell people every day. It’s like, should we be taking care of things in Winchester, Mount Sterling, Lexington, or should we be paying for stuff in Ukraine? And I frankly think we don’t have enough money to do both, we’ve got to take care of stuff at home,” Paul said.

The services fair was the last stop of a tour throughout eastern Kentucky where Paul spoke with constituents, also including first responders and tourism advocates.
