Woodford Countians praise early voting

Early voting in Kentucky began Thursday and continues through Saturday. In Woodford County, early voters cast their ballots at the county park’s Falling Springs Center. Among a steady stream Thursday morning was Schaef Gililland.

“Well, I think it’s pretty good deal this year because the election is so contentious and there’s so many problems. I mean, not problems, but there’s so many people thinking so strongly about how they believe. So it’s very contentious.”

Gililland spent 22 years in the Marine Corps and said he’s interested in veterans’ issues and recruitment for the military. He also said he hopes the election process doesn’t result in chaos and violence. Gina Jesse said the right to vote is easy to take for granted.

“How do you feel about early voting?”

“I love it. I think it’s great. It provides voters with opportunities, leaves them with no excuses.”

“Have you early-voted before?”

“Every chance I get.”

Among the local races on Versailles’ ballots is the city council, where seven people are vying for six seats in a nonpartisan contest.
