Expect delays around Leestown Road beginning at 7 a.m. Monday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 26, 2025) – Construction for the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project in Lexington will require temporary road closures of both Leestown Center Way and Opportunity Way at Leestown Road during the week of June 30. The closures will allow the contractors to install drainage pipes.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, June 30, contractors will close Leestown Center Way at Leestown Road. On Tuesday, once the work on Leestown Center Way is completed, it will reopen and contractors will close Opportunity Way at Leestown Road. Once the work on Opportunity Way is completed, it will reopen. Weather permitting, all work should be completed by Thursday, July 3 at 5 p.m.
Monday, June 30 – Thursday, July 3, weather permitting:
- At 7 a.m. Monday, Leestown Center Way will be closed at Leestown. No additional lanes will be closed at Leestown.
- While Leestown Center Way is closed, drivers can use Opportunity Way for access.
- On Tuesday, July 1, once the work on Leestown Center Way is completed, it will reopen.
- At that point, Opportunity Way will close at Leestown Road. No additional lanes will be closed at Leestown.
- While Opportunity Way is closed, drivers can use Leestown Center Way.
- When the work on Opportunity Way is completed, it will reopen. Weather permitting, this will be by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 3.
- Delays are possible; please plan accordingly.
The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange, improving safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. All work and/ or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
