Mayor Linda Gorton today joined University of Kentucky Football Coach Mark Stoops, Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett, former University of Kentucky football players, and local high school football coaches to kick off the UK football season and Lexington Football Week, part of the city’s year-long celebration of its 250th anniversary.
“Football is a proud hometown tradition here in Lexington, and it’s a very important part of our city’s 250th anniversary celebration,” Mayor Linda Gorton said today. Football Week kicks off with UK’s first home game Saturday, and continues through Sept. 7.
University of Kentucky Football Kentucky Coach Mark Stoops said, “Football is community, and we encourage all of Big Blue Nation to enjoy this week and support football at all levels in Lexington.”
Lexington Football Week marks the start of 250Lex Sports Month, a showcase of Lexington’s long, proud athletic history, and the many athletes who have represented the city on the local, national, and international stage.
