Lexington Fire Department names 2025 Junior Fire Chief

The Lexington Fire Department proudly names Sandersville Elementary fifth-grader Jillian Sensabaugh as our 2025 Junior Fire Chief!

The Junior Fire Chief Program is one of several ways the Lexington Fire Department’s Community Services Bureau helps educate and connect with our community. Together with the Citizen’s Fire Academy, hands-only CPR training, and fire extinguisher instruction, the department places a strong focus on providing safety education to Lexington residents. October, observed as Fire Prevention Month, is always a busy time for LFD, with station and truck visits highlighting this year’s fire prevention theme: “Charge into Home Safety – Lithium-ion Batteries in Your Home.”

“Jillian’s poster and essay really reinforced this year’s focus on Li-ion batteries” said Fire Chief Jason Wells. “Lithium-ion batteries, seem to be everywhere and this year’s campaign raises awareness on buying safe products, charging devices safely, and disposing or recycling responsibly”

Chief Jason Wells said, “Jillian will serve as a representative of the Lexington Fire Department by visiting local businesses and landmarks, taking part in media interviews, and joining me at meetings with the LFUCG council and Mayor Gorton. These experiences will give her the chance to promote fire safety and share this vital message with people across our community.”
