TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Safety Improvements, Resurfacing to Begin on KY 52 in Madison County

Alternating lane closures expected during daytime work hours

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 18, 2026) —The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that two projects to make safety improvements on KY 52 (Irvine Road) and to resurface a portion of the state highway will begin Monday, March 23, in Madison County.

KY 52 Safety Improvements and Paving

This project will add a 4-foot painted center median to enhance safety and repave KY 52 between Old KY 52 and Tipton Road from mile point 16.3 to mile point 18.4.

Motorists should expect daily alternating lane closures during working hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic will be maintained through the work zone using a pilot car.

The $1.4 million project is designed to improve roadway safety and is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2026.

KY 52 Resurfacing

This project will include full-width resurfacing from mile point 21.6 (approximately 0.6 miles east of Bybee Loop) to mile point 22.7 near the Estill County line.

Motorists should expect alternating lane closures during working hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews complete paving operations.

The $408,488.40 project is expected to improve pavement conditions along this section of KY 52 and is anticipated to be completed by June 30, 2026.

Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for signage and personnel in work areas.

All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
